Music in Performance-Instrumental Emphasis (Bachelor of Music)

A minimum of 124 semester hours is required for all undergraduate degrees for graduation. Some majors may require more than 124 credits.

Major Requirements:


  • Ensembles - (minimum 8 credits of major ensembles on primary instrument)
  • Ensembles - (minimum 2 credits of minor ensembles on primary instrument)
  • Ensembles/lessons - (minimum 3.5 credits of choice of lessons on secondary instrument, with instructor permission, or ensembles (major or minor) on primary or secondary instrument.) 

Signature Learning for Bachelor of Music Majors Requirements:


  • First Year Seminar (MUSIC 120 Introduction to Music and Listening  for all music majors)
  • Reading and Writing 
  • Oral Communication  
  • Ethics   
  • Quantitative Reasoning *
  • Religion
  • Fine Arts (Requirement waived for Bachelor of Music majors)
  • Social Science *
  • Cultural Pluralism *
  • Natural Science (Students must take a minimum of six (6) credit hours of Natural Science and the laboratory science requirement) *
  • Humanities
  • Global Systems

*    Minimum 8 semesters of Primary Lessons and passing the MUSIC-401P level.

**  Minimum participation in one improvisatory ensemble such as a jazz ensemble or ensemble NOW.
