  • BUS 334 - Retail and Distribution Strategies

    A study of various channels of distribution including wholesalers and retailers. Focus will be placed on distribution strategies from the manufacturer’s perspective and retailing strategies from the retailer’s perspective. Prerequisite(s): BUS 131  or BUS 231.
  
  • BUS 335 - Marketing Communication

    An examination of the promotional techniques available to marketing management. Emphasis is given to market analysis and the communication process providing the means for effectively promoting various products. Specific tools of consumer behavior analysis, personal selling, advertising, sales promotion and publicity are examined as components of overall marketing strategy. Prerequisite(s): BUS 131  or BUS 231 (F,S)
  
  • BUS 338 - Consumer Behavior

    Focus on the behaviors of consumers in the marketplace. Topics include consumer psychology, consumer decision-making processes, and consumer analysis. A case analysis approach will be used to apply the concepts of consumer behavior to contemporary marketing situations. Prerequisite(s): BUS 131  or BUS 231; BUS 250  is recommended but not required.   • BUS 345 - Personal Selling and Sales Management

    A study of personal selling techniques and sales management techniques. Sales management techniques include sales planning and forecasting, recruiting, selecting, motivating, training, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the sales force.     This course examines the rule-sets currently being developed by businesses and consumers; understanding how these rule-sets, strategies, and tactics are changing the way marketing organizations interact with their customers and prospective customers; identifying the tools currently being used and evaluating their usefulness in all overall marketing strategy; identifying the risks and rewards of using social media; and identifying how social media marketing fits into an overall Marketing plan.

    A study of the macro-environmental forces influencing the multinational firm as it attempts to market its products and services to global markets; and how these forces affect each of the areas of product, promotion, price, and distribution.     Operations management involves the synchronization of business processes to optimize performance.  Production and Service Operationsw Management (P&SOM) focuses on managerial issues arising in the operation of both manufacturing and service industries.  Students consider the language, concepts, insights and tools to deal with operational issues, and how to gain competitive advantage through operations.  A process view of operations is used to analyze key operational dimensions such as capacity management, cycle time management, supply chain and logistics management and quality management.     Sustainable Supply Chains requires thorough understanding of the process of planning, implementing and controlling the effective, efficient flow and storage of goods, services, and related information from point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of conforming customer requirements. From the perspective of sustainability, this research-intensive course will cover the state-of-the-art literature and best industry practices in LSC management. Sample research topics include coordination and contract design in LSC, shipment consolidation, demand management, operational entrepreneurship, humanitarian logistics, information systems in LSC not-for-profit operations, e-tailing, distribution networks, simulation of system-wide performance in services, optimal design of freight tariffs and interfaces between finance, marketing and operations.     This course introduces students to the investment process, different asset classes, portfolio management and financial hedging using options and futures. Primary emphasis is on the fundamentals of stocks and bonds investments, with introduction to modern portfolio theory and security analysis. The course covers the valuation of stocks, fixed income securities and businesses. Real life valuations of companies are an inherent part of the course and  students will be able to apply discounted cash flow analysis and relative valuation techniques to value a security.     Business Policy and Strategy, commonly referred to as the “capstone” business course is designed to integrate all of the functional areas of business.     This course introduces students to ASL Fingerspelling and offers  students the opportunity to work in expressive and receptive fingerspelling. The emphasis of this course is on using fingerspelling in context. Prerequisite(s):   with a “C” or better.
  
  • ASL 210 - Intermediate American Sign Language I

    This class is an intermediate-level continuation of a survey of communication within the deaf community. As an intermediate American Sign Language (ASL) course, this class exposes students to advanced prosodic techniques including classifier differentiation, classifier use, and narrative expression.   • COMM 101 - Communication Professional Development Seminar

    This course introduces new majors to the study of communication. Students will also acquire information about degree planning skills for college success, co-curricular activities and internships, career and graduate school opportunities, and professional resources.  Additionally, this course will introduce students to conceptual framework for the communication curriculum, including the expectations for the electronic portfolio and senior project.

    This course is designed to introduce students to the formal study of human communication. Students will learn how to read scholarly literature, design and conduct a research investigation, analyze findings and discuss the relevance of their findings. Students also will have extensive exposure to qualitative research methodologies that are commonly used in communication research, will learn about descriptive statistics, and will learn how to develop theoretical explanations that are grounded in theory.     The study of how humans use communication in their attempts to influence others’ values, attitudes, beliefs or behaviors, especially in relationship to non-print and print media and other aspects of culture. While exploring techniques to enhance the intellectual productivity of small group discussion, the course offers the opportunity to develop leadership skills and participant responsibility.     The focus of this course, the capstone project, is intended to provide communication majors with an opportunity to produce scholarship that highlights the integration of their course work, knowledge, skill and experiential learning.  Working with a faculty mentor, the student will conduct research, do an in-depth study of a specialized topic, and/or develop a substantial creative project.   • CSAC 245 - Computational Science I

    GEN ED GOAL #3. An introduction to the problems and solution methodologies in computational science. Computational tools such as a computer algebra system, a high performance computing engine, visualization software and Internet resources will be used to explore and solve mathematical problems drawn from various fields of science.   • CSAC 335 - Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems

    A modeling approach is used to cover techniques for solving a variety of Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE): linear (first and higher order), non-linear, and systems of ODEs.     Topics include models for the rotation and vibration of diatomic and polyatomic molecules and their visualization, molecular mechanics using semi-empirical force fields, and molecular dynamics of polypeptides, polynucleotides, and their interactions with drugs.   • CSAC 392 - Computational Biology

    An exploration of bioinformatics and mathematical biology. Topics include sequence alignment and analysis of DNA and proteins, modeling the physiology of the heart, statistical analysis of biology data, and the use of web-based databases. Prerequisite(s): MATH 121  or MATH-130.
