Structure, nomenclature, physical properties, preparation and reactions of hydrocarbons; nature of the covalent bonds formed by the carbon atom, stereochemistry, reaction mechanisms and spectrometric analysis. Must be taken concurrently with CHEM 233 unless the 231 instructor waives this requirement. (Offered fall/summer)
