MUSIC 120H - Introduction Music and Listening (Honors)

(UC 100 Cognate Course) The focus of this course is to introduce the students to listening strategies that deepen their relationship with music, and move listening from a passive activity to one that is active and rewarding. This course will heighten attention to the sonic dimensions, the rich variety of meanings, and the social and political functions in the music of our world.  Students will also communicate about music both verbally and in writing.   (Offered fall.) Prerequisite(s): Open to all first year Honor Program students, recommended for students with UC 110  placement or higher.  Required for all Bachelor of Music students. Fulfills University First Year Seminar Requirement for Honor Students.
