African American - African Studies Minor

The minor in African American/African Studies is designed to provide opportunities for the systematic study of the African heritage of African Americans. Students benefit from a wide range of perspectives in the study of cultural diversity. This is a reflection of Capital’s commitment to multicultural education.

Minor Requirements:

UC 270 - Cultural Pluralism
HIST 220 - History of Africa
HIST 260 - African American History and Culture
The following must be done with a focus on African Americans, Africans, and/or some directly related topic:
SOC 491 - Individual Study
SOSCI 495 - Social Science Internship
Choose six hours from:
ENGL 270 - Ethnic and Women’s Literature
SOC 390 - Social Stratification-Race, Ethnicity, Class, and Gender
