Business Core (Finance Major)
The Business Core program provides a broad foundation in the five areas of accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing as well as a working knowledge of quantitative methods and information systems.
Signature Learning courses (with exemptions from the Quantitative Reasoning and Social Science requirements); BUS-101, 131, 201, 211, 213, 221, 240, 242, 246, 260, 325, 390, 450; Math-120 and Math-215. Students majoring or minoring in any area of business must earn at least a C- in BUS-101 to take further Business courses. If necessary, students may repeat BUS 101 to achieve this minimum. Students majoring in Finance must take ECON-101 and ECON-115 as part of the major requirements.
Suggested Additional Coursework:
- Students interested in financial analysis and financial services should consider taking additional courses such as BUS-210, BUS-412, BUS-413, and BUS-414.
- Careers in government service and Public administration should consider taking additional courses such as ECON-361 and courses in Political Science.
- Careers in corporate finance should consider taking additional courses such as BUS-347, BUS-412, BUS-414, BUS-415, and BUS-417.
- Careers in International Business should consider taking additional courses such as ECON-337, and foreign languages.
- Graduate study in finance or economics should consider taking additional courses such as ECON-320, MATH-230 and MATH-231.
Residency Requirement:
At least 12 hours of major requirements must be taken in residence at Capital University, not including the Business Core.
