Social Work Major

Social work majors need to maintain a 2.5 Cumulative GPA to be formally admitted to the BSW Program, Field Education, and to graduate with the BSW. Students majoring in social work must earn at least a C in the required Social Work courses (below), as well as SOSCI 210 Social Science Statistics  and SOSCI 220 Social Science Research Methods , PSYCH 120 Introduction to Psychology , and SOC 115 Principles of Sociology  to advance in the Social Work program.

Signature Learning Requirements for Social Work Major:


  • First Year Seminar
  • Reading and Writing 
  • Oral Communication
  • Ethics
  • Quantitative Reasoning (Requirement fulfilled with Major, SOSCI 210 )
  • Fine Arts *
  • Social Science - (Requirement fulfilled with Major)
  • Religion
  • Cultural Pluralism -  (Requirement fulfilled with Major, SWK 227 )
  • Natural Science - (Students must take six (6) credit hours of Natural Science, (Natural Science & Society requirement and the Natural Science with Laboratory requirement)*
  • Humanities 
  • Global Systems
