Professors - Reed, Stadler, Federico

Associate Professor - Feng

Mission Statement:

The mission of the mathematics, computer science, and physics department is to prepare students for careers and graduate school in their respective majors and minors, including mathematics, mathematics education, computer science, data science, and physics. Our programs develop the problem-solving and analytical skills that help students be successful in a wide variety of career paths. The department’s faculty focus on developing skills that, when combined with a strong liberal arts core, not only prepare students for immediate employment but also prepare them to be lifelong learners who can adapt to ongoing, technological change.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to analyze a problem and implement an algorithm in a computer programming language to solve the problem.
  • Students will be able to analyze the efficiency of algorithmic solutions to problems and discuss potential improvements and trade-offs of different algorithms and data structures.
  • Students will be able to describe the fundamental concepts of computer architecture and how operating systems abstract access to the computer hardware.
  • Students will be able to learn new computer science concepts and programming languages and present them both orally and in written form.
  • Students will be able to analyze a given problem for potential ethical violations of the IEEE-CS/ACM Code of Ethics.
