SOCJ 499 - Social Justice Capstone(4) This course is the culmination of foundational and topical social justice coursework. Students will conduct a theory-driven project that addresses community needs. The change-maker begins with emersion in a chosen community to form relationships and learn needs. This crucial foundation is translated into a proposal that includes realistic goals and social justice methods. The change maker implements her/his/their proposal with support from community members and tracks outcomes. Dissemination occurs through presentation to community members and at other venues. (Offered fall). Prerequisite(s): Take 3-4 hours in a Community Engagement designated course OR UNIV 194 - Social Justice - Community Engagement” and SOC 115 Principles of Sociology or SOC 120 Introduction to Sociology , SOCJ 300 Social Justice Seminar II junior standing (completed 59+ credit hours).
