This course introduces students to the investment process, different asset classes, portfolio management and financial hedging using options and futures. Primary emphasis is on the fundamentals of stocks and bonds investments, with introduction to modern portfolio theory and security analysis. The course covers the valuation of stocks, fixed income securities and businesses. Real life valuations of companies are an inherent part of the course and students will be able to apply discounted cash flow analysis and relative valuation techniques to value a security. (Offered spring.)
