NURS 360 - Theoretical Foundations of Nursing(3) This course provides students with the foundation for professional nursing practice. The seven cornerstone concepts of the Capital University School of Nursing curriculum (Health, Communication, Caring, Critical Thinking, Transitions, Culture, and Systems) are introduced. Selected nursing frameworks (such as Leininger, Culture Care; Orem, Self-Care; Gordon, Functional Health Patterns and Roy, Stress and Adaption) provide students with the foundation to develop a personal understanding of nursing as a healing profession. Various professional roles, ethical issues and nursing’s leadership role in the evolving health care system are discussed. Emphasis is also placed on developing self-care strategies for the caregiver.
