HTS 2322 - Human Suffering and Evil

Examines the ways that Christian thinkers in the 19th-21st centuries grapple with human suffering and evil. Among the questions addressed: How can a loving God allow evil to exist? Did God create evil? Is there a devil, and if so, did God create the devil? Are suffering and evil “part of God’s plan”? Why do Christians perpetrate evil? We will engage Christian ideas and arguments about the nature of evil and suffering and the relationship of God to the existence of evil in the world.
